It can be easy to assume that there’s next to nothing to do here in P.E. with it being so quiet and all, especially if you’ve lived in a big city. However, you’d be surprised. This is just one of those events that really has you wondering where it is that everyone hides the rest of the year, I always feels as if every single person within the city itself and a 100 mile-radius attends.
The Valley Market. What is it? It’s all in the name, it’s basically a Farmer’s Market (or as they call themselves, “an Artisan Food Fair”) that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. I first attended last year when it took place at the old location. The new location at the Tramways Building is pretty great, but it hurts my little heart that there isn’t live music out on the grass in the sunshine anymore 🙈 But hey, you win some and you lose some!
The new venue is pretty great, it does a good job of housing all the various stalls and growing number of attendees.
What can you find here?
Mostly food. We’re talking locally sourced, organic, fresh, home-made, specialised food. There’s all kinds of variety to satisfy every foodie’s soul and needs; from Asian food, craft beer, produce, homemade ice cream or fresh juices to confectionaries like cupcakes and brownies (my fave!).
How about non-food items?
There are a lot of cool clothes on sale, the cutest little plant stalls, and even home spa goods (for all you bath bombs and bath salts fanatics out there). You can really find anything and everything here 🙂
Why should you go?
If you’re looking towards having a good time with friends and family within a super relaxed atmosphere while simultaneously supporting local/small businesses and the community, then look no further. A portion of the proceeds from the entrance fee go towards supporting various charities aimed at giving back to the community and the less fortunate. It’s for a good cause, and a win win for everyone involved! Everyone who works at the Valley Market is bubbly and friendly, so there are good vibes all round 🙂
Why I love this event
I love how the city comes together, and everyone seems so genuinely happy to be there and having a good time. If you’re a little more outgoing, you’re sure to leave having met at least one new person 🙂
It’s also nice to see an event bring support to local businesses, while simultaneously supporting those in need. It feels like you’re making a difference, knowing that your money is going towards something greater.
Plus if you’re often house-bound like me it’s the perfect opportunity to go out 😂😅 hopefully more events like this will pop up, ones that support the people of P.E. who are looking to make a name for themselves and their businesses.
P.S. if they ever need to hire someone for live music, I’ll be waiting 😉
