Hello, helloooo internet friends!!
I hope that this post finds you well. Here’s my latest installment of songs that I love and listen to.
As always, feel free to share what’s on your playlist. Music is magic, and magic is multiplied when shared.
Rose Pink Cadillac by Dope Lemon
I love Dope Lemon, the brainchild of Angus Stone, half of my favourite duo Angus & Julia Stone. This is such a fun, laid-back funky tune. The type of song you’d have on repeat while spending a day at the beach, sparkling pink lemonade in hand.
Cigarettes by Juice WRLD
I feel like it’s all or nothing with me and songs. I’ll listen to something till I’ve squeezed every single last drop of enjoyment from it, lol. It’s either being listened to over and over again for a year or not at all.
Side-note: Was so surprised to see Amanda Steele in this video! Been watching her on YouTube since I was a teenager, time flies.
I’ve listened to ‘Cigarettes’ and ‘Wishing Well’ almost every single day over the past month. Regarding the latter, I’m still trying to wrap my head around how such a happy sounding song can have such sad, dark lyrics.
No Cars Go by Arcade Fire
If the feeling of freedom was a sound, it would be this song. I love Arcade Fire so much. I’ve listened to the album ‘Neon Bible’ from start to finish, multiple times. It’s so beautiful. There aren’t many albums I can say that I like like that.
Mama – Da Capo’s touch
There’s no beating South African music and I think the entire continent knows that. You know it’s true! This is such a feel-good tune.
iMali by Karyendasoul
Love to see artists from the Eastern Cape getting the recognition that they deserve. Karyendasoul deserves to blow up, his music is just too good. Futuristic afro-house. That’s how I’d describe it. Karyendasoul is propelling us into a whole other music experience universe. ‘Control’ is another undeniable favourite of mine.
Killem Everyday by Savara
Some love for Kenyan musicians too, of course!! This melodious track is perfection. If one thing is for sure, it’s that Savara has style. Proper style extraordinaire.
Needle In The Hay by Elliott Smith
Movie soundtracks! Gotta love ’em. My sister and I are still on our quarantine movie-watching mission. Heard this song while watching’ The Royal Tenenbaums’ (excellent, excellent film that doesn’t get talked about enough).
Last hope by Paramore
I love songs that deliver hope and a message. This one does just that. Paramore’s music and impact is eternal.
What’s my age again? By Blink 182
Nobody likes you when you’re 23!!!!! 😂 Had to. Didn’t know that this was the song everyone’s been referencing. I feel like Blink 182’s music has been the official soundtrack to the 2000s and every teen movie from that time. Even if you didn’t actively go looking for their music, it definitely found you. Every song of theirs sounds so familiar, I always realise that I’ve heard it before, multiple times.
I really do love this song, it’s no wonder that it’s still a classic. It’ll always be!
It’s also pretty cool to see the way that Travis Barker has been supporting the next generation of musicians bringing forth the pop-punk music resurgence.
Can’t stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Another classic band! Red Hot Chili Peppers has to be one of my most favourite bands of all time. I love everything about the style of their music. I love Anthony Kiedis’s voice so much.
Notorious Thugs by The Notorious B.I.G
I never spent any time listening to Notorious B.I.G before this, but after listening to this song, I think it’s about time that I started.
That’s all for today! See you in my next post.
